Clove Hitch
A hitch is generally speaking a knot which attaches a rope to something.
A clove hitch is used to attach a rope to a rail or spar with right angle pull. Commonly used to attach fenders to the guard rail of boats, it is easy to adjust and change the height of the fenders.
To tie a clove hitch, follow the diagram below:
Lead the rope around the rail, crossing over the top of the standing part. Pass the working end around the rail again and lead it up through parallel to the standing part.
