Bowline
A bowline is used to form a loop in the end of a rope. The knot is secure when tied and pulled up correctly and is easy to untie after excessive loading. This knot cannot however be tied when the rope is under load.
To tie a bowline, follow the diagram below:
Make a loop in the standing part of the rope. Pass the rope working end up through this loop, around behind the standing part and back down through the loop. Pull the knot tight evenly by pulling the standing part against the bowline loop and rope end.
